Sunday 21st July 2019. 1410 – 1515

Warmer than yesterday. Overcast with minimal light rain this morning. Hence late start. Track dry.

Cody reluctant to walk again but at human equivalent age of 87 I suppose he is entitled. Thomas and I saw 2 Platypus, both in cooperative mood and 2 Green Ringtail Possums who were both weary and couldn’t really be bothered. Two Saw-Shelled Turtles also seen, one the smallest ever at about 5 cms.

Platypus – Ornithorhynchus anatinus

Near Snodgrass’s Pool. First seen at far side of creek but given a few minutes he approached right to the near bank weeds, nearly jumping with fright when he surfaced within 1 metre of Thomas.
This is what I call a closeup!

Saw-Shelled Turtle – Elseya dentata

Medium sized specimen on usual logs.
Minute (5 cms ) turtle on nearby log. Never seen one this small before.

Green Ringtail Possum

1) Also close to Snodgrass’s Pool. Quite hard to see in surrounding foliage but managed a sly peek from the creek side of the tree.
2) Further along the track. Tired and totally unresponsive. Perhaps had a large lunch?
